Professor Jukka Takala is renowned for his many contributions to the sciences of occupational health, specifically occupational diseases, and occupational ergonomics. With an illustrious career of four decades serving the Ministry of Social Affairs in Finland, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the EU, the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore etc., he is the previous President of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), but still very active. He is also a DSc, MSc and Fellow of Faculty of Occupational Medicine (Hon.) of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland.
For his speech, Jukka will discuss the size and impact of the global asbestos disaster, focusing on such aspects as long-term, low level exposures, the relationship between mesothelioma and asbestos lung cancers and of course the upcoming new EU Asbestos at Work Directive.
