    Christian Lahnstein has studied law in Tubingen, Munich, Genève and Salamanca. As lawyer he worked for Munich Re in Colombia (from 1982 to 1988) and Munich (until 2014), responsible for fundamental issues relating to tort and insurance law, for developing strategies to deal more effectively with long-tail risks

    Keynote Speaker

    Dr. Richard Lemen is a former Assistant Surgeon General of the United States. He served as Acting Director and Deputy Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) before his retirement. Since retiring from the United States Public Health Service in 1996, he has been Adjunct Professor of Occupational and Environmental Health at the Emory University.

    Thomas Kraus takes great interest in diseases of the airways, whether caused by occupational or environmental factors. He lectures, researches and published much in the field of occupational medicine.

    Gert van der Laan has dedicated his career to workers’ health. He is a founder of the Netherlands Centre of Occupational Diseases (Nederlands Centrum voor Beroepsziekten) and a senior consultant in Occupational Medicine with both national and international experience in consulting, research and education.

    Mr Barry Robson has been President of the Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia since 2003 and was a delegate between 1995 and 2003. From 1995 to 2003 he was also Assistant Secretary, Maritime Union of Australia and prior to that a Councilor of Blacktown City Council, NSW.

    Linda Reinstein became a public health advocate after her husband, Alan, was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2003. Realising that this fatal disease kills many people yearly, she co-founded the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) in 2004.

She graduated from Middle East Technical University in 2012. She trained to become an asbestos removal expert at BG BAU in Germany. Nowadays she trains asbestos removal experts in Turkey.

  • Professor Nico van Zandwijk

    former Director of the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute (ADRI)

    In 2007, he joined ADRI after a long career in thoracic oncology in Europe. In 1985, he founded the department of thoracic oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and made major contributions to the identification of prognostic factors in lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma, to chemoprevention studies in lung cancer and major national and international clinical trials.

    Gonzalo Zufia has a wide knowledge of asbestos from the removal/abatement perspective. For he is the President of the Spanish Asbestos Removal Contractors Association and also the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager at IGR (the first asbestos removal company in Spain).
